Transforming ways of working

In 2016, the Guardian adopted the OKR model, and with it an emphasis on discovery and testing rather than simply delivering business requirements. But most of the organisation wasn’t familiar with this way of working — and I found myself on a large team who hadn’t been through the discovery process before.

Despite this, I was able to work with the team to establish a rhythm of dual track agile, with continuous discovery track: prototyping and testing dozens of ideas, embracing failure, and ultimately delivering features that moved our metrics. I went on to train others across the organisation in the methods we’d used.

Watch me and product manager Monica Viggars tell the story at Jam London in November 2016.
